"This is a Digivice iC. You will need it."  "And we're gonna have to talk to Sampson and the girls around arranging the travel there... See if we can do it without any of the D3s... I remember the D3 Digi-Port program was downloaded into the Digital Dive, so I think it's probably doable." |

The CIA owes me at least four favors that I can think of," smirked the colonel, "I want you to stay safe, Samuel; you're only there for Aaren at the moment." "...Yes, sir," said Sam, nodding.  "What is this strange thing?" he asked, taking his sword back from Lt. Col. McCall and pointing at the digivice. |

Lt. Col. McCall shook his head a bit. @lt. Col. McCall@ "I disagree in some amount...shared is good. Honestly earned is better. You take care of my son. I have to talk to my government about this." He hugged his son and nodded to Aaren. "Good luck." Lt. Col. McCall then left, leaving Sam and Aaren behind. Aaren sheathed his weapon and Sam sighed and stuffed the thing in his pocket. "Well...I suppose you've got my services for now," said Sam, blinking. "My blade is yours." |

(Since no one else is answering...) Samuel saluted smartly, as if it was second nature to him- but before he could open his mouth, Aaren opened his mouth. "We ask because from what has been relayed to us, there is a problem in the...digital world...with locations being infested with these...dark towers. My village is not under the influence of these towers. Nor have we heard of these troubles or this 'Digital Emporer'." "Sir, Aaren here seems to be from what would be considered an 'uncontacted tribe'. It was postulated that if there is no tower nearby where he is, it might be possible to sneak in a larger force and establish a base camp for your DATS forces." "I have agreed to negotiate with my chief a bargain. Allow you to use our village as a base camp, and, in return, you protect us from said dangers. We have no experience with such things, and I would be honored to defend my tribe with any means in my power. Even if that means breaking our isolation, it is better than being controlled by these...blasted things which you describe." |

"Establishing a discreet location separate from DigiCity, where we can begin rallying native Digimon to help liberate the continents surrounding DigiCity may be an option. We should also be taking steps to ensure that the Digimon Emperor does not simply try to replace Control Spires that we have already destroyed." |

Aaren looked SUPREMELY disheartened.  "So...I can neither return to my home nor help prevent its destruction?" he asked, eyes closed. He looked completely shot right now, like those words had crushed everything he had left. All he wanted to do was go back to the land where he came from, and now, that looked supremely unlikely.  Sam had to resist the rather base urge of arguing and yelling and getting pissed, but only turned in the digivice he had been given. "Suppose I won't need this, then," he said quietly, handing it off, "Aaren, you should still stay with them until you can go home." "...I...suppose..." Sam then turned and headed for the door, not sure what else he could do or accomplish by sticking around.... @lt. Col. McCall@ The imposing figure of his father appeared again. "Where exactly do you think you're going, young man?" "Err, dad, this whole thing got shot down-" @lt. Col. McCall@ "The plan might, but your orders are to stay here. You've been drafted." Sam GAWKED. "DRAFTED?!" he asked, incredulous, not sure what this was about. @lt. Col. McCall@ "And you report to DATS now to get proper training. Executive Order." "WAIT WHAT?!" @lt. Col. McCall@ "Your candicacy to West Point is all but assured. They're commissioning you as a Private right now. And you're going to follow orders, Private, is that understood?" "What about basic or-" @lt. Col. McCall@ "You're already in shape and research indicates that's not what makes your ability tick. So you're going to apply for DATS and proper training. Now." Aaren was completely mystified by this. |

McCall@ "It's been a military priority since our troops couldn't do jack shit to defend our own cities from digimon five years ago," he said flatly, "Sam is to report to whichever branch of DATS is best able to train him, and then report to DATS as long as his term of service or training requires." Didn't help that the DoD (Department of Defense) and DHS (Department of Homeland Security) were major contributors to DATS's coffers. "I shall leave that at your discretion, Commander. Wherever you think he is needed." Sam and Aaren were both a bit flabbergasted. @lt. Col. McCall@ "Aaren!" Aaren actually saluted, surprised. "Yes, sir?" he asked, timidly. @lt. Col. McCall@ "You're formerly offered asylum by the United States and support as long as your stay is required. We request that you stay with Sam as his 'partner' as long as you stay." "Do I have a choice in said matter?" @lt. Col. McCall@ "Not particularly. Otherwise you're under DATS custody." "...I suppose I will, then." |

To be fair, DATS getting funding from those two departments does make some sense."True... The Royal Knights DID do a ton of damage worldwide... Still, the idea of Digisoul used by the military-" "They obviously want to simply use it to protect innocent people in times of crisis, like we do," Yushima chuckled, handing Samuel his digivice back. "I suggest that Samuel should accompany Masaru, Thomas and Yoshino in pursuit of Prometheus and Pandora, and tracking down the Bunomon, his partner, and their companions. "...however, I will allow him to train in order to take care of himself... so, Marcus... you and Agumon will be his trainer until he learns to be a good DATS agent and don't take his newfound position lightly as he was about to..." |
