Fort Benning, Georgia: Bonds of Kinship

Morning, obviously. Peter McCall yawned as he walked down the steps. His sister, Alexis, was on the couch in the family room, watching TV. A LOT of news stations were reporting on this crisis, many predicting more doom and gloom.


"Yikes..." muttered Peter as he went to the pantry to get his cereal.


"Don't remind me," said Alexis with a sigh, "Mom went to the grocery store. You know her, she's not phased by a bomb going off."


"Sam just called, he said it's the same in Japan, definitely."


"He alright?" asked Alexis, turning, a bit concerned.


"Yeah, sounded like it. No idea if Dad's with him, though..."

Alexis sighed and ran her fingers through her hair.

"This is a terrible mess...I heard they're cancelling schools everywhere and they're trying to get supplies ready in case there's another war or something..."


"Yeah, and this time we've got a real stake in it if Sam's out there..."

Not that long afterward, a portal appeared in their home, coming through a family computer in the living room...


"What the heck! Peter, go open the safe!"

Peter nodded and ran up to their father's gun safe.

Thad dropped out and straightened his glasses.

"Easy, miss. I am no burglar. I am officially a consultant of the Digital Accident Tactics Squad-" that was a bit of a lie, "With an operative coming right behind me..."

Alexis blinked, a bit unsure...

"Couldn't you've used the front door?" she asked suspiciously.

[Candescence]

"Well, this is kinda the only way we can do it while coming over from God-knows-where," Keith said frankly, as he popped out, showing his iC as proof of his status as a DATS operative.


"Huh, nice place," Vix chuckled, popping out.


"Yeah," she nodded, coming through as well.


He was now excited, he was gonna meet his partner!

That was when Peter came down with an M1911 in his hand.


"Who the heck are you supposed to be?" asked Peter- hands ready, but not pointing the pistol at anyone.


"That's...a Renamon...wearing clothes..."


"Vix is...different," said Thad with a chuckle, "Not in a bad way, Vix, no offense meant at all."

Peter saw the iC, a bit confused, but the weapon dropped to his side.

"What are you guys doing here, then?" asked Peter, blinking.


"We are here on a special errand concerning your brother, Samuel."
Best not to mention their father.


"I heard he was working for DATS, what about him? He okay?!" asked Alexis.


"Yes, as far as I know, your brother is fine. However, I have something for you...?"


"Alexis- Lex or Lexis if you want," she said.


"Well, since I already know a Lex, Alexis will do for now. At any rate..."
He tossed the Thoth-made iC to her.
"This is for you two."


"Huh?"


"What?"


"In case someone attacks here, you have some method of defense."

[Candescence]

"Someone hasn't been to DigiCity," Vix said, bemused.

Then, popping out of the iC...


"Hi!" He grinned. "Name's Heero, I'm a Z-Veemon!"


"... Oh, wow, I can only imagine what Davis would say if he saw THIS."


"Heh, cute little guy..."

"...A Z-Veemon? I've never heard of your kind...and I wasn't involved in the DO beta. My app got rejected."

Peter blinked.

"I think I'm going to go put this away..."
He then left, unloading the weapon as he went.


"At any rate, if you need something, simply call DATS."
He nodded. "See you."

He then left via his digiport.

[Candescence]

"What he said," Keith nodded, heading through the port...


The girls following too.


"Well, I'm not the type of Veemon you'd find out in the 'wild', so to speak," Heero remarked. "I was trained by one of the greatest heroes where I come from!"

"Oh, really?" asked Alexis, smiling a bit.

Peter came back down.

"So he's staying?" he asked- more in simple curiosity than anything else.

Alexis nodded.

"Heero, this is my brother Peter. My name's Alexis McCall," she said, bending down to shake his hand.

[Candescence]

"Nice to meet ya! I guess either of you could be my partner, huh?" Heero remarked, shaking Alexis' hand, looking at Peter and then back at Alexis, "Can't say I'm not disappointed, Pete looks pretty tough, and you're quite the looker, if you don't mind me saying!"

Peter's eye twitched.

"....Don't. call me. Pete." he said, voice flat.


"Your compliment's appreciated, but you're not my type," laughed Alexis with a wink.

[Candescence]

"Ah, sorry, Peter," he said, with a chuckle at Alexis' comment, before sitting down on the couch, "Nice place you guys got here."

"It's what our parents can afford on an officer's salary and whatever my mom gets for doing some local music stuff," said Peter with a shrug- though he kept the insult in mind.


"I hope Mom doesn't mind," said Alexis, laughing, "We're going to have to get you a bed and feed you and everything."

[Candescence]

"Well, I don't need anything big to sleep on, and I'll eat anything," Heero remarked.

Peter sighed.

"Think we've got a roll-away cot that'll work."


"And some sleeping bags and blankets for when we go camping. At least until we can get you something else..."
She blinked. "So you said you're a Z-Veemon? I've never heard of them at all..."
She looked at his swords. "Or a Veemon coming with blades..."


"I think I'm going to go upstairs and practice a bit. You mind, sis?"


"Nah, go ahead and do your shredding thing," laughed Alexis.

Peter nodded to both of them and went upstairs.

"Well, I come from a place few humans have been before," he remarked. "I focus on melee combat."
