General Brainstorming

Alright, since we're gonna likely get this thing started up, I think we should summarize what changes and additions to what's already on the board.

What AC and I have been brainstorming:

The setting is now gonna be a mixture of what Tensei was originally supposed to be, combined with a re-tread of the aftermath of the original Digimon Adventure and the aftermath of Digimon Savers.

- Adventure happens, people go missing (possibly the original Digidestined), and the events of Savers occur after that.
- Humans, now completely aware of Digimon and the truth that they're not an actual danger to humanity, become increasingly interested in them. As a result, 'Digimon Online' is established, allowing humans to go into the Digital World and get their own partners, and establish a peaceful co-existence with them.
- As the result of this, Digimon develop a more human-like society, starting with the first 'modern' Digital World city, DigiCity. The DigiPol organization is also established to police troublemakers, much like DATS on the Earth side.
- Individual Digimon begin to develop various individual aesthetic variations, as well as gender and reproductive aspects, due to the incredible exposure to Digisoul (which can cause permanent changes in Digimon, ie, Agumon changing to his Savers design in NEXT after evolving due to Digisoul) produced by all of humanity back during the final battle with Yggdrasil, as well as more and more humans using Digisoul on a regular basis.
- The 'Digital Terminals' are developed on the Digital World side in order to provide a stable, secure and safe method of transportation between the worlds, facilitated by any kind of device capable of running the terminal program on the Earth side that can connect to the internet (even portable devices like smartphones).
- One of the new antagonists is a former lackey of Milleniummon, possibly all the way back from his ZeedMilleniummon stage.

- We may end up using the 'newer' level-based mechanics from Poke/Digi.

And some stuff I wanna add to that, myself:

- Since we're treating the events of Ryo's adventures as canon in any case, I think it would make sense if we revisited the Digimon Kaiser plotline, except obviously modified to fit the new setting and events.
- If we introduce a new, unique Digivice, I would imagine that its design would be inspired by a smartphone, especially in the context of Digimon Online - a multi-purpose handheld device with a touch screen of some kind, basically making the D-Terminals from Adventure 02 rather redundant. D-Terminals are hilariously outdated, anyway, I still can't fathom how the good guys could send out quick messages with those things.

Alright, thinking about the very first point, I think it's probably best to have the two series align more timeline-wise. Having them so far apart is a bad idea. So, I figured that perhaps it could be possible to merge the two, to allow both casts to have involvement in both sets of events. Presuming the current date at the start of the RP is around 2012...

Timeline: (Using Japanese names for the human characters at least.)

- 1997: The disappearences start to occur. Suguru and his team are sent to the Digital World to investigate, after said world is discovered. Kurata uses a Space-Time Oscillation bomb to allow the team to escape, while Suguru fends off attacking Digimon.
- The ten-year gap: Suguru travels the Digital World, searching for Yggrasil. Gennai and his cohorts, unaware of Suguru's research into Digisoul due to being on an entirely different continent, create the original Digivices, which allow Digivolution through the user's latent Digisoul, even if they aren't aware of it such power, but the Dark Masters attack their facility, and Gennai escapes with his life, the eggs, and the Digivices. Gatomon becomes part of Myotismon's forces sometime after evolving on her own.
- 2002: The "worst day in the Digital World" occurs, as Kurata makes his first genocide attempt. This is foiled by Merukimon, who is understandably enraged and believed that Suguru had betrayed him. Frigimon perishes in the massacre. Suguru is imprisoned.
- 2006: Roughly around summer, the events of Digimon Adventure begin, with some differences:
-- When Taichi briefly returns to the real world with Agumon, the bizzare occurances in Odaiba are investigated by DATS. Touma and Yoshino are on the scene, and much to their surprise, they see Taichi and Agumon return to the Digital World. After briefly questioning Hikari, they decide not to erase her memory, as they suspect that something big is going on, but instead keep her under watch.
-- Myotismon and his forces attack Tokyo in search of the eighth Digidestined. DATS mobilizes immediately in response. Touma and Yoshino, despite their relative lack of power compared to the Digidestined at their stage, do rather well thanks to their experience, and help their new allies with the conflict. Kurata and his Gizumon also get involved, as Myotismon's weaker forces unwittingly end up becoming research subjects for Kurata, who is able to gain traction with the Ministry of Confidentiality due to the attack. After the Digidestined return to the Digital World, DATS cleans up any lose ends on Earth.
-- After Apocalymon's defeat, Satsuma and Yushima decide not to erase the memories of the Digidestined, and give them honorary DATS membership for their heroic actions, and for the sake of addressing future threats.
- The events of Cathode/Anode Tamer and Tag Tamers occur. Ryo Akiyama battles and defeats Milleniummon twice, and Ken is infected by a dark spore.
- Ryo's third adventure occurs, which turns out to be a rather messy affair. After Ryo disappears, the Digidestined are very much berated by Satsuma due to how their handled the affair.
- 2007: A few months after the events of Digimon Adventure, Masaru meets his new partner Agumon, and the events of Digimon Savers begin.
-- The DATS team become friends with the Digidestined.
-- Merkurimon battles WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon when he first appears, and proves to be a match for both of them, much to everyone's surprise.
-- The journey to Infinity Ice Ridge results in the two groups splitting up. Masaru, Touma and Yoshino get there first, and are narrowly saved by Yushima. Round 2 with the Olympian versus WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon is much closer, but the Digidestined are also forced to retreat through the portal.
-- Kurata reveals his intentions. However, this time, the group escapes the MiBs by the skin of their teeth, and head back to the Digital World to stop Kurata's genocide. Once again they split up into two groups. Masaru, Touma and Yoshino achieve the next digivolution level, putting them on part with Taichi and Yamato. The other Digidestined start to wonder that maybe the crests aren't getting them as far as Digisoul could.
-- The heroes manage to prevent the Holy Capital's destruction, and battle their biggest threat yet - Belphemon. Masaru and ShineGreymon achieve Burst Mode.
-- The heroes then are forced to defend the Earth from Yggdrasil's Royal Knights, and eventually, Yggdrasil himself. After a climactic confrontation, Yggdrasil is defeated, and the two worlds are cut off from each other for some time to allow the dimensional barrier to heal, though an emergency access is established in case of crisis.
- Five Years After:
-- The events of Our War Game occur.
-- The Digidestined are forced to give up their crests. To compensate, Suguru and Gennai work on a new Digivice to replace the old ones, and the former begins to teach the Digidestined how to use Digisoul.
-- The Digital World and the Digimon themselves have changed over the five years. DigiCity is founded.
- 2012: The barrier finally heals. The public is fascinated by Digimon, and as a result, the Digital Terminals are created to allow stable and safe travel between worlds. Digimon Online is established.

It's not perfect, but I think it's workable, especially with some additional work.
