While appearing to be a cold mercenary, Ivan is actually fairly sympathetic; he cares for his brothers and sisters, and only takes on dirty work so he can make a living for them. Well-meaning and caring, he usually just keeps a lid on his emotions when work's around. He's allowed himself to loosen up more when acting on his younger sibling's account, since there's little risk of him being tracked back to his family like that.

History:
Ivan was one of the three people Kurata hired for his Bio-Hybrid project; namely, fusing Digimon and humans into one entity. Unlike his comrades, however, Ivan had good reason to enlist in such an experiment; he needed the money to care for his family home in Russia.
Their purpose was to counteract DATS and their operatives, which they were actually doing a good job at, until the group managed to access their Digimon's Mega-forms. In retaliation, Kurata infused the Bio-Hybrids with data from Mega-levels on their own, though Ivan was not willing to undergo the process in the first place, unlike Kouki.
It came to a point where Ivan confronted his crush, Yoshi, along with both Sora and Mimi supporting her. As Yoshi flat-out turned his affections down flat, Ivan turned into BioSpinomon, and only after a grueling fight with Rosemon, Garudamon and Lilymon did he lose; causing his Digital self to be split from him in a Digi-Egg. Thankfully, he at least decided to aid DATS when the time came to stop King Drasil from his schemes; even getting his siblings to aid him by lending some Digisoul.
Since then, Ivan returned to Russia to look after his siblings; handing them the Digi-Egg to raise for themselves. When one line of work required him to actually enter the new Digimon Online, he got permission from a younger sibling to use his account to log in and explore, while keeping a low profile at the same time... by starting out as a Digital Brawler online. Yeah, totally subtle, Ivan...
