Was pondering if I should play as them again... but figured I might. Sides, had to get myself a gogglehead eventually, even if he officially doesn't have a digimon at the moment

Well, Yuji is stupid.... really, really, REALLY stupid. He'll do things that makes no sense or dangerous without a thought. Stuff like clean his ears with a knife, think a girl's dressing room is a bathroom among other stuff. He would go fighting himself, but... that always ends badly for him, as he has no skill at all.
Kouta is a boy who has no physical training either, but he is way smarter than Yuji and can be fanboyish too. He's a coward, and w wimp though, and tries his best to stay out of fights, but he always attracts bullies to pester him. Unlike Yuji, Kouta has no digimon.
Personality:
Kouta is a good hearted kid, he studies hard, helps out when he can and does his best to stay out of trouble. He's very geeky, going fanboy for certain TV shows and toys, and a very timid person. Because of all this, he gets picked on very easy and tries to run away. When he can't... Yuji always steps in to help him out... somewhat.
While Kouta is the brain, Yuji is... well, he isn't. He ain't even the muscle. He think he can fight but he barely could wrestle his little sister. But despite that, he always look out for Kouta, defended him from bullies. Sadly, Kouta feels shamed for this, not only for getting Yuji hurt... but thinking that all those blows to the head is making the boy dumber. Yuji is dumb, its amazing he can even remember to breath. Wither its because of all the blows to the head or just his refusal to learn, don't expect him to graduate anytime soon.
As their avatars, Kouta wants to be brave, dependable and passionate, a real hero and not just depend on his friends to protect him, he calls himself Hikaru. Yuji, wants to be seen as smart, brilliant even... his avatar Masuken however, while he would talk in a polite manner, say long words and phrases, expect him to get things wrong still. He'll also make excuses for when he looks foolish. (If he gets stab, he says it did that to make the blade duller).

The two boys have lived in Osaka their whole lives, best friends since grade 1. With their little gang was also a girl Kiyoshi, and sometimes a boy younger than them, Teru.
Kouta was the nerd of the group, timid and not violent, so he gets picked on. Yuji does what he can to protect the boy, no matter what injury he goes through.
While they were both opposites, they both shared common interest, digimon was one of them, and they so wanted to be part of the Digimon Online craze. Sadly, the terminals were always occupied and crowded, the boys barely got a chance to even enter the digital world. Yuji refusing to give up, sought out other ways to get into the fun... being the moron he is, he trusted a bootleg organization from China.
While the weren't official, the bootleggers promised Yuji that they would work just as the original. Yuji foolishly trusted them and got himself and Kouta an account. Using their 'D-Cybers' (just a bootleg Digimon Neo, but with a flap like a cell phone) they finally got to enter the digital world!
While Yuji got in okay and was with a digimon, Kouta however... it seems because of the bootleg, he doesn't have a digimon. Despite that, he tries to cheer up and focus on seeing real live digimon and exploring the digital world.
