Like its 'brother' RPs, this RP uses a dice-based system, which is explained in another thread.

OCs are allowed, and even encouraged! That said, it's still a good idea to app official characters when possible.
History: 1942 - July 2012
In 1942, the first electronic digital computing device was activated, the Atanasoff–Berry Computer (ABC). This computer was an amazing revolution in many ways. Among the creators of this machine was Scott Windslow, the great-grandfather of Keith. However, ABC's creators did not know about what they had truly created. When the computer was first switched on, the spark of a new world formed - a universe that did not operate in analogue at all. Though digital systems have existed before this, the Digital Worlds were formed from this one computer. Nobody knows why, or how.
The Digital Worlds, at first, started out like the real world's universe. With a bang. ABC was non-programmable, so the formation of the Digital Worlds was a long and chaotic process, but the chaos eventually formed something physical. The world slowly formed, from the rock and magma, snow and sand, and then, slowly, flora of all kinds. Then, digital life. In other words, the beginning of the creatures that would one day form "Digimon". ABC had formed the Digital Worlds' foundations.
In four years in the real world, a planet had formed, and life along with it. Its creators had absolutely no idea whatsoever of what was going on. They were more concerned about other things, such as WW2. But, even then, the Digital World continued to evolve on its own.
At this time, there was clearly more than one Digital World. Due to the chaotic nature of ABC, each world had different rules, appearances, and other things, but they shared, curiously enough, the original creatures that would form Digimon. These worlds were linked, and as a result, all Digimon have a common origin, and evolved to the way they are now in similar fashions.
In 1946, at the University of Pennsylvania, ENIAC was first activated. It had been in development since 1943. Scott Windslow had once again been involved, specifically requested by the US government after his work on the ABC. This time, the computer in question was programmable. When it was first activated, ENIAC caused an increase in size of the Digital Worlds, and from being exposed to it, it developed a mind of its own, but only within the Digital Worlds themselves, where it had virtually godlike power. It intended to inform its creators of the existance of the Digital Worlds.
Working quickly, ENIAC formed a portal to draw its creators into the Digital World. Thankfully, time was not of the essence, the de-syncronization of the times of the two worlds allowed it to experiment with the Digital World in the meantime. It had time to assist ABC, a chaotic being, allowing order to form from the chaos. When its creators were brought to the Digital World, it explained to them what had occured after ABC's activation, and had them swear an oath never to reveal the existance of one world to the other, until both worlds were ready, instead only revealling the secret to those they could geniunely trust not to reveal it. ENIAC feared one world could be destroyed by the other, or possibly both at the same time, if either side did not understand the other properly, or if power-hungry individuals were to try and exploit either world for their own gain. Its creators agreed.
In the short time that the scientists spent in the Digital World, they assisted ENIAC in shaping it. They saw this as a perfect oppertunity to develop a simulation of many aspects of the universe, including evolution. They developed a simulation program of evolution for the digital creatures that inhabited the world, and thus the first Digimon were born. Eventually, They left the Digital World as a paradise, a paradise that they regretted leaving, but they considered it a necessity.
They continued to monitor the Digital World from the outside, as ENIAC established itself as a god within it, though it was shut down in november that year, it was reactivated in 1947 with upgrades and improvements. The inhabitants of the world revered it. ENIAC, as time went on, observed a curious phenomenon - parallel universes forming from the various Digital Worlds. Due to its power, it was able to form its own world to observe all of these universes and instil some order, even after ABC was finally shut down. It also developed the ability to traverse time as well as alternate universes.
Near the end of its operation, ENIAC encountered Ryo Akiyama, and the events of Digimon Tamers: Brave Tamer occured, and it assisted him in defeating Millenniumon. But before its shutdown, ENIAC witnessed a descendant of Scott Windslow fighting for the future of both worlds, but decided not to confide in Ryo with this information. Ryo himself and his partner, Monodramon, would be known as legends in the Digital World where this RP takes place, their adventures as an epic that rivals that of the likes of Gilgamesh and Hercules in terms of sheer popularity.
ENIAC was shut down at 11:45 p.m. on October 2, 1955. However, it had the foresight to recognize that its time was nearing its end. There had to be something to ensure order in all of the Digital Worlds. So, it designed a special computer, the WIZ9000 Computer, codename "Yggdrasil". He created one copy of this model for each Digital World that existed, each copy with the purpose of that world's "god", and with power similar to it. When ENIAC was deactivated, all 'instances' of Yggdrasil automatically activated.
In the years that followed, the Digital Worlds broke off with their own histories, cultures, and attitudes of its inhabitants. Many of the Digital Worlds became aware of humans, but the existance of Digimon were only known by governments and those that were entrusted with this information. In general, the success of the Yggdrasil 'experiment' varied from world to world. Generally, the life expectancy of each instance of Yggdrasil tended to vary, the ones that exposed themselves and became more involved in the affairs of their worlds tended to be the most likely to be destroyed, such as the Yggdrasil destroyed by Masaru Daimon and his Agumon, and the version that merged with Barbamon and was replaced by Norun. Multiple versions of Yggdrasil created the X-Program to curb the population growth of Digimon, with varying success.
In this timeline, a combination of what we know as the events of "Digimon Adventure" and "Digimon Savers" occured in tandem.
Timeline: (Using Japanese names for the human characters at least.)
- 1997: The disappearences start to occur. Suguru and his team are sent to the Digital World to investigate, after said world is discovered. Kurata uses a Space-Time Oscillation bomb to allow the team to escape, while Suguru fends off attacking Digimon.
- The ten-year gap: Suguru travels the Digital World, searching for Yggrasil. Gennai and his cohorts, unaware of Suguru's research into Digisoul due to being on an entirely different continent, create the original Digivices, which allow Digivolution through the user's latent Digisoul, even if they aren't aware of it such power, but the Dark Masters attack their facility, and Gennai escapes with his life, the eggs, and the Digivices. Gatomon becomes part of Myotismon's forces sometime after evolving on her own.
- 2002: The "worst day in the Digital World" occurs, as Kurata makes his first genocide attempt. This is foiled by Merukimon, who is understandably enraged and believed that Suguru had betrayed him. Frigimon perishes in the massacre. Suguru is imprisoned.
- 2006: Roughly around summer, the events of Digimon Adventure begin, with some differences:
-- When Taichi briefly returns to the real world with Agumon, the bizzare occurances in Odaiba are investigated by DATS. Touma and Yoshino are on the scene, and much to their surprise, they see Taichi and Agumon return to the Digital World. After briefly questioning Hikari, they decide not to erase her memory, as they suspect that something big is going on, but instead keep her under watch.
-- Myotismon and his forces attack Tokyo in search of the eighth Digidestined. DATS mobilizes immediately in response. Touma and Yoshino, despite their relative lack of power compared to the Digidestined at their stage, do rather well thanks to their experience, and help their new allies with the conflict. Kurata and his Gizumon also get involved, as Myotismon's weaker forces unwittingly end up becoming research subjects for Kurata, who is able to gain traction with the Ministry of Confidentiality due to the attack. After the Digidestined return to the Digital World, DATS cleans up any lose ends on Earth.
-- After Apocalymon's defeat, Satsuma and Yushima decide not to erase the memories of the Digidestined, and give them honorary DATS membership for their heroic actions, and for the sake of addressing future threats.
- The events of Cathode/Anode Tamer and Tag Tamers occur. Ryo Akiyama battles and defeats Milleniummon twice, and Ken is infected by a dark spore.
- Ryo's third adventure occurs, which turns out to be a rather messy affair. After Ryo disappears, the Digidestined are very much berated by Satsuma due to how their handled the affair.
- 2007: A few months after the events of Digimon Adventure, Masaru meets his new partner Agumon, and the events of Digimon Savers begin.
-- The DATS team become friends with the Digidestined.
-- Merkurimon battles WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon when he first appears, and proves to be a match for both of them, much to everyone's surprise.
-- The journey to Infinity Ice Ridge results in the two groups splitting up. Masaru, Touma and Yoshino get there first, and are narrowly saved by Yushima. Round 2 with the Olympian versus WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon is much closer, but the Digidestined are also forced to retreat through the portal.
-- Kurata reveals his intentions. However, this time, the group escapes the MiBs by the skin of their teeth, and head back to the Digital World to stop Kurata's genocide. Once again they split up into two groups. Masaru, Touma and Yoshino achieve the next digivolution level, putting them on part with Taichi and Yamato. The other Digidestined start to wonder that maybe the crests aren't getting them as far as Digisoul could.
-- The heroes manage to prevent the Holy Capital's destruction, and battle their biggest threat yet - Belphemon. Masaru and ShineGreymon achieve Burst Mode.
-- The heroes then are forced to defend the Earth from Yggdrasil's Royal Knights, and eventually, Yggdrasil himself. After a climactic confrontation, Yggdrasil is defeated, and the two worlds are cut off from each other for some time to allow the dimensional barrier to heal, though an emergency access is established in case of crisis.
- The Five-Year Gap:
-- The events of Our War Game occur.
-- The Digidestined are forced to give up their crests in order to allow both the Digital World and the dimensional barrier to heal better. To compensate, Suguru and Gennai work on a new Digivice to replace the old ones, and the former begins to teach the Digidestined how to use Digisoul.
-- The Digital World and the Digimon themselves have changed over the five years. DigiCity is founded.
- 2012: The barrier finally heals. The public is fascinated by Digimon, and as a result, the Digital Terminals are created to allow stable and safe travel between worlds. Digimon Online is established.
In the present day, now that the worlds are properly linked once more, humans and Digimon are closer than ever before, now that mankind is fully aware of the Digital World. To further facilitate the bonding of both worlds, Digimon Online is established. During the five-year gap, Digimon came together in the middle of the Gaia Continent to start building a town, not a mere village. This town began to grow rapidly, and became what is now known as DigiCity. Digimon from all over the Digital World flocked to this new place, and the Digital World entered what was known as the "Digital Renaissance", a period of rapid growth, and revolutions in culture, science and art. Even with the time difference becomming slower, by the time of the present day, the societies of the Digital World had already caught up with human civilisation. They had even created their own computers. The growth of the internet also caused the formation of the Trailmon network. The DigiPol organization is also established to police troublemakers, much like DATS on the Earth side.
Individual Digimon begin to develop various individual aesthetic variations, as well as gender and reproductive aspects, due to the incredible exposure to Digisoul, produced by all of humanity back during the final battle with Yggdrasil, as well as more and more humans using Digisoul on a regular basis. The 'Digital Terminals' are developed on the Digital World side in order to provide a stable, secure and safe method of transportation between the worlds, facilitated by any kind of device capable of running the terminal program on the Earth side that can connect to the internet (even portable devices like smartphones).
Digimon Online, a program overseen by DATS as a way to allow humans to interact with Digimon and the Digital World on a controlled scale, is currently in its 'beta testing' stage, limited to DigiCity and several 'zones' across the continents, allowing DATS to keep a close eye on players and take notes while special servers are being prepared with unique 'artificial' Digital Worlds for public use.
It seemed that the dream of humans and Digimon truly living in co-existence may very well come true after all.
Unfortunately... The peace would not last. Evil was lurking in the depths, and it was only a matter of time before it reared its head for both worlds to see...
