Name:
Jou Kido
Nicknames:
Joe
Age:
17
Gender:
Male
Residence:
Odaiba
Occupation:
Student, Digidestined
Character Class:
Noncombatant
Digimon Partner:
Gomamon
Weaknesses:
Joe isn't really much of a fighter, can be viewed as a mild coward (though nowhere near as extreme as it used to be), and has a crippling self-sacrifical attitude; always ready to toss himself against the enemy if someone close to him is threatened.
Personality:
Initially viewed as a regular stick-in-the-mud, Joe is more or less who you would call the one who looks out for those younger than him, which basically amounts to him always suggesting the safest route, whilst also being the first one to stick his own skin on the line to aid those who need it. Always one to count on, Joe perfectly embodies the Crest of Reliability, even if he's a touch easier to freak out with the most henious and horrifying revelations.
Likes:
Gomamon, studying, helping out
Dislikes:
Being thought of as a pushover, being pressured heavily

History:
As one of the kids who witnessed the battle between Greymon and Parrotmon at Highton View Terrace, Joe became one of the Digidestined who were flung into the Digital World, where he met and befriended Bukamon who would eventually become Gomamon, even if it took a while for him to warm up to the bizarreness of the Digital World. As the oldest of the bunch, he desperately tried to make the others keep out of harm's way and find some way to get home, but it became quickly apparent that they weren't just gonna sit down on a bus and hitch their way back to Japan.
This came to a head when the group stopped by the base of Infinity Mountain, and Tai and Matt argued on whether or not to climb the mountain; the former arguing that they could gain a vantage point from the top, and the latter arguing that it'd be hazardous for them to climb. As he couldn't resolve their argument, Joe decided to sneak off in the middle of the night to climb the mountain himself to determine whether or not it'd be safe, with Gomamon tagging along. After an encounter with a Black Gear-possessed Unimon (who Joe tried fending off by yanking the gear out of the Champion), Gomamon achieved his Digivolved form of Ikkakumon, and bested the beast.
After Devimon split the group off, Joe, Gomamon, Sora and Biyomon ended up on an island inhabited by Bakemon, and the latter three decided to give Joe a morale boost by appointing him the leader of the group, even if Sora was more qualified. The result was that the four were nearly consumed by King Bakemon, but Joe actually did find a way to weaken the ghosts with a Buddhist chant, before the group headed back to File Island, and they subsequently defeated Devimon.
When they headed to Folder, Joe eventually found his Crest of Reliability, but did little of note until the final confrontation against Etemon, where he and Ikkakumon boldly served as a distraction for the Ultimate simian and his minions while the others saved Sora from Datamon. After Tai and MetalGreymon vanished, the group began splitting up due to the machinations of DemiDevimon; Joe eventually ending up at Digitamamon's diner, where he was forced into months of debt and servitude; aided a touch by Matt, but being foiled by DemiDevimon to remain there indefinitely.
Thankfully, Tai and TK showed up to spring them out, but Digitamamon and his cohort Vegiemon tried attacking the group, whilst Joe threw himself at the Vegiemon to save TK; inadvertedly allowing Matt to activate his Crest of Friendship to form WereGarurumon, who bested Digitamamon. When the group split again, Tai and Joe soon located Mimi with the Gekomon tribe, and eventually got her back with them.
When the group returned to the human world to stop Myotismon, Joe's next most noteworthy feat was saving TK from drowning after they were ambushed by one of Myotismon's minions MegaSeadramon. Joe, out of energy after aiding TK, almost ended up drowning, though his crest activated just in time for Ikkakumon to Digivolve to Zudomon, who himself proved strong enough to best MegaSeadramon.
During the battles with the Dark Masters, Mimi and Joe ended up splitting off from the rest of the group, when they reunited with three familiar faces; Leomon and Ogremon from File Island, and a revived Etemon in the evolved form of MetalEtemon. As they headed off, MetalEtemon engaged in battle against Zudomon and Leomon's Mega form SaberLeomon. However, SaberLeomon ended up taking a fatal blow from MetalEtemon, who ended up suffering the same fate against the Chrome Digizoid surrounding Zudomon's hammer. With the death of Leomon, Mimi and Joe resolved to forming an army that they could use to combat the Dark Masters, which they used with impeccable timing against Piedmon, though Joe did split off with Sora to locate Matt so he could aid them.
After Apocalymon's defeat, and the events surrounding DATS and Diaboromon, Joe focused his studies on medicine; deciding not to cave into pressure from what his father expected of him, but rather doing so on his own terms. Lately, studies have kept him exceptionally busy...
