Nanami is an intellectual prodigy, but it resulted in her feeling lonely, as one-of-a-kind. It eventually lead to her accepting Professor Kurata's offer to became a Bio-Hybrid, to quench her own curiosity and to battle someone she saw as an equal - Thomas Nornstien. The first battles against him were easy for her, but when DATS achieved Overdrive Digisoul, Nanami became hopeful, and in their next battle, with MirageGaogomon versus BioLotusmon, Nanami flirted with Thomas constantly, hoping he would see her side of things. She seemed to be winning, anticipating almost every move he made, until he performed a spontaneous attack fueled by gut feeling rather than intellect, something that was normally Masaru's department, and she told him as such after her defeat, claiming that she had been defeated by "Masaru's power", not his. After that, she was seen contributing to the pillars of Digisoul worldwide during the final battle against Yggdrasil.
She spent the next five years performing university research and researching Digimon where she could. She hadn't contacted Thomas since, believing that he wouldn't want to see her again. When Digimon Online opened up, she decided to sign up, and see what it was like to have a partner of her own...
