Having tempered his body to withstand the toughest of blows, Leomon's speed suffers somewhat in comparison. In addition, he is the kind of Digimon who's eager to toss his life away in order to defend his beliefs.

Unless seriously provoked, he generally tries to avoid outright killing Digimon, except when it's literally the only option to prevent the loss of human life.

Several years ago, Leomon was what you could call a guardian of File Island, at least from some of the Digital Monsters tearing each other apart due to petty disputes. He garnered a lot of enemies during this tenure, including Ogremon, who saw himself as Leomon's personal rival. All that changed, however, when a swarm of Black Gears emerged from Infinity Mountain. When Leomon tried to investigate, Ogremon stopped him with intent of fight, just as Leomon was corrupted into becoming Devimon's servant.
Working under the demonic Champion, Leomon was forced to battle the Digidestined, though one encounter led to Tai temporarily freeing Leomon from Devimon's control. A subsequent encounter with Mimi and Izzy led to the same discovery; while he was corrupted, the holy light of the Digivices had an adverse effect on him. This came to a head by the Primary Village, when Leomon tried killing TK and Patamon. The Digivices permanently freed Leomon from Devimon's influence, and in return, he aided the Digidestined against Devimon and Ogremon, before helping them make a raft that would take them to Server.
Several years flew by in the Digital World, and suddenly, the Dark Masters arrived to create the dreaded Spiral Mountain; Leomon being caught in the forest portion of this prison. Here, he made a surprising discovery; the constant rays of light from the Digidestined while he was under Devimon's control had given him an unique ability; to freely Digivolve between Champion and the Mega level of SaberLeomon. In this form, he got Mimi, Joe, their partners and Ogremon from the clutches of MetalEtemon.
This lasted briefly, though; while SaberLeomon put up a valiant fight, when Ogremon tried to butt in and Mimi stopped him, MetalEtemon tried killing the two of them, but SaberLeomon took the fatal blow for them. Together with Zudomon, they managed to utterly destroy MetalEtemon, but Leomon was simply too weak for them to be able to help him. He died whilst bidding the children and Ogremon farewell, and with the Primary Village sealed by the Dark Masters, this meant that he couldn't reconfigure his data in the village.
Thankfully, though, with Apocalymon's defeat, Leomon's Digi-Egg returned to the Primary Village, and though it took a longer time than usual, he was reborn, and eventually attained his Champion form... though something was amiss. His data had been brought back the wrong way, which had caused him to completely forget everything he had experienced; not just with the Digidestined, but also with Ogremon and the rest of his enemies. Since then, he's been aimlessly fighting to find a purpose for himself; the only thing he can remember being a certain sense of regret...
