"What in the name of nonsense would a Patamon be doing running about, appearing on purpose, and then disappearing leaving this behind once we catch it? It's a phenomena I've never heard of." The Dracomon grumbled, having missed his opportunity to catch the thing. "It is some sort of strange test. Is there anything in the coding here that might reveal something interesting or off about these things?"

She took the rod. "It is indeed likely a test... Whoever made this program was careful to not leave tracks, so to speak. It is exceptionally well-coded, I must say..."

"I mean, I doubt you've seen anything like it here...but this is definitely odd. No digimon leave behind parts or spoils. Once they're gone...boom. Egg. That's how it works..." Thad raised an eyebrow. "Could you make an... excessively artificial digimon? One only programmed for specific purposes? That would dissolve differently and convert into an item?"

"In theory? Yes," she replied. "To my knowledge, 'artifical Digimon' already existed in the form of the Gizumon that Professor Kurata created..."

"Okay, here's the question, then. Could you recreate the Patamon or the Angemon from data leftover in this Rod?"

"Possible, but it would be a lengthy and difficult task," Sekhmet replied.

"And could we question the resulting digimon coming from that egg? Would it reset the test?"

"I am unsure of the latter, but the former is extremely unlikely. The original 'Digimon' was likely only programmed to engage challengers in battle, and relinquish the item in the case of defeat."

Thad frowned and stroked his chin. "...If that's the case...they're toys, almost." He frowned. "I'm sorry, this is all terribly dark, but someone is then out there making and programming digimon to only do one purpose. It's not like your Father making all of you and giving you free wills. That in itself is problematic."

"Yes... The potential motives may be rather suspect, or it could simply be misguided methods," Sekhmet nodded.

"Indeed. But what I am troubled about is this: whoever is making these pre-programmed specialized digimon also has access to a technology to teleport them directly to places convenient to us. Is there any sort of code in there that let them track digivices or something?"

She shook her head. "Unfortunately... No, there is not."

He shrugged. "Fair enough. They themselves may not track it; maybe it's the person that makes the portals. But this can't be coincidence."

"I agree," Sekhmet nodded. "Still... All this is getting us so far is mainly speculation."

"Not truly. There are VERY few people that would have the knowledge of digimon that deep to make this work. Along with the technical know-how to make that kind of portal device, and the funding necessary to keep the experiments going. We know it's not the DoD; we're their program. It definitely narrows down the list. Can't be that Rairadar/Kurata guy. He wouldn't be GIVING us stuff that could beat him. SO there's only a few other people that it could be. Do you have an access to lists of people that once worked on any ENIAC project? Or were involved in this kind of work?"
