Day 2- DoDDW: Breakfast at Thoth's

"AUGH! BLAST IT!"

Brett moaned as he heard the yelling, which woke him up from a deep sleep.
He pulled on a new set of clothes and went running to the source of the yelling- alone. Andorra was apparently a heavy sleeper, and Brick ALWAYS was.

Brett made it to Thoth's library...and gawked at what he ran into. It was a miniature Dark Tower- no rings fired about, though.

Unfortunately, at the base of his desk was Thoth...not...as they saw him, however.


"Oh, dear. I think I need to get back in and change a couple lines of code."




"....THOTH?!"

"Indeed..."

"What was that...noise?" He stepped out, rubbing his eyes. He blinked at the figure. "....whozat?"

"I am me," said Thoth, "Which is to say, I am my 'rookie' form."


"The hell were you doing with this thing, Thoth?" asked Brett, walking over to his desk where he had the miniature dark tower.


"I was attempting to find a proper vaccine to counteract the evolution block! Unfortunately, my first attempt backfired. I can fix myself, just give me a second..."

He came up to it. "Huh, you built a replica already?"

"Not so hard when you can manipulate source code like I can," said Thoth, "It took me a while to find ways to make it less innately hazardous for experimentation..."

He opened up his own screen and suddenly flashed again-


"There-"

And flashed again.

"Blast. Brett, did the screen log what happened?"

Brett looked at a data screen...

"Er... I think..."


"Oh, let me see..."

Thoth hopped up on his chair and flapped his small wings to get to the screen.

"Ah, so that is how it is done...it distributes a local over-write code that forces digivices to reset power levels, ignoring digisoul or any other...hrm.......AH!"


"What?"


"If it works as a carrier signal, all one has to do is bounce back a signal at the opposite wavelength, amplitude, intensity, and frequency to neutralize it!"

He popped open another screen, duplicated the tower, changed over how it was broadcasting and...he flashed again.


"Viola! Success!"

"Congrats." He nodded. "Good job making progress on this. Armors are good and all, but I miss flying through the air."

"If I could see your D-Touches, please..."

Brett handed his over. Thoth went through the code and adjusted some things...


"There. Now in the presence of Dark Towers, you will be unaffected by the digi-soul block, and your partners can then evolve. You will need watch, though. More D-Touches in one area is better, as the counter-signal will be stronger. As long as you keep your device close, this should work."


"That's great, though. One thing out of the way."


"Indeed. I still must work on the black ring problem."

"Right." He held his out to get upgraded. "Digimon that are under a D3 aren't effected, but everyone else is in trouble."

"At least until the D-Touch modification packages are sent back and used, yes," said Thoth, who updated Kaz's with the same ability, "Though let me tell you this as a metaphor. Imagine that the tower is a raincloud. While being rained on, your digimon cannot evolve. Think of this as your umbrella. You are now able to digivolve. If you have more umbrellas together, you can fit extra people under them. So, let us say you have a friend that has a digivice iC. If you stand next to them and keep close, this will allow them to evolve their partners. But if they distance from you, then it will revert back to the original mode."


"Right, so these have a limited ability to project that signal."


"Indeed."
The great bird yawned. "So much to do and so little time to do it in. At least your time here is different than the time out there."


"Huh?"


"An hour in here is mere minutes outside the boundaries of this world."

"Really..." He blinked. "So Brett and I have to be close to everyone for them to fight with us. Makes sense." He nodded. Then blinked. "Huh, so there's a major time difference?"

"Not as spectacular as it once was, Father has been normalizing it for several years on the outside now. At present, one hour spent in this world is approximately three and a half minutes out in yours. It used to be that millions of years would go by."


"How old are you, in this universe's terms, then?!"


"I have not been a rookie such as that in quite some time," chuckled Thoth, "I think that in terms of time, externally, Ronald Reagan was president. Internally...I would say close to fifteen million years old. Thereabouts."


"..."
His jaw dropped out, basically.

"....uh." He had just about the same expression. "Is every guardian around here at that age?"

[BlueLoneWolf]

"No. Sobek was created maybe internally a million years before I was. Hathor is virtually my twin, but she is maybe a few thousand years younger. Horus is maybe only ten million years old. Sekhmet is not even five million years old."


"Sounds like...dad slowed down..." said Brett, blinking.


"Indeed. He makes us as he sees need. Sobek controls creation and pure law. I control the accumulation of knowledge, Hathor growth and development of will, Horus the law in the civil sense...Sekhmet is still trying to find her way."


"Neat, I guess."

"Man, you guys sure got a complex system working here..." He rubbed his head.

Thoth chuckled.

"As compared to human governments, I would think ours makes everything relatively simple by comparison."
He winked, though. Obvious jest.


"Thoth, what about a field like the one that covered Tokyo?"


"Similar principle. If they are trying to use some sort of energy to hold your evolutions and digisoul down, this will track and counter it."


"That's good news. Well, what's the next thing you're going to do, Thoth?"


"I intend on doing something about the dark rings that your data described. And while at present they seem to only control Champion-level digimon, there's no way to avoid the fact that it could be used for higher levels given proper manipulation. I intend to break that...but that can wait until after breakfast, I am starving."


"Well, everyone else isn't up yet, so..."


"Feh, I can have something brought to us, gentlemen. Order whatever you wish, I can have it made. At least we can toast your devices' new ability to evolve your partners no matter what."
