Also Matt is a bit of a loner.
As Hideto, he contains his loner persona, but adds a tough, smarty guy image to hide his true personality so no one will know he is Matt. He'll act bored, but will show his skills in battle when the time is right.
Likes:
His little brother TK, Gabumon, hair gel, his harmonica, his band
Dislikes:
That TK doesn't live with him, people who make fun of his hair, that TK is growing up

History:
Matt, real name - Yamato Ishida,, is a member of the Digidestined and holder of the Crest of Friendship. His Digimon partner is Gabumon and his little brother is TK, but his parents are currently divorced. However, before that happened, they lived in Highton View Terrance. It is there they witnessed a Champion-level Greymon fighting against an Ultimate-level Parrotmon.
Over time, their memories of the event faded, and the brothers were then split up when their parents divorced. Their father received custody of Matt, while their mother got custody of T.K., and took him to live outside of Odaiba. As such, Matt and T.K. do not see each other as much as they would like, and Matt sometimes has trouble being the brother he should. Matt's dad means well, but he is sometimes not as considerate as he could be. Matt thought that his family didn't want him, and so he decided to keep to himself, not making friends - not becoming close to anyone, so he could never be hurt.
Shortly after they arrived in the Digital World and became friends with their Digimon, the kids came across a lake, with a strange boxcar sitting on a small island there, connected to the shore by land bridge. Matt was still trying to learn how to take care of his brother without anyone else's help, and came off as short-tempered a few times. However, while Matt and Gabumon stood watch as the others slept, they were attacked by Seadramon. Gabumon Digivolved to Garurumon for the first time to save Matt from the serpent's clutches.
When Devimon seperated them on different chunks of the broken File Island, Matt fought against the group's leader, Tai, in a fit of rage after being worried sick about his brother. He nearly got sick if Gabumon didn't took good care of him... They soon attacked by Mojyamon, a Digimon under the control of Devimon's Black Gears. Despite saving him, the seeds of bitterness between these two were sown deeply... for now.
During their adventure in Server to find their Crests, Matt found his along with Izzy's in a well. He wanted his to "Digivolve himself" - he wanted to learn from the experiences the Crest would give him, to grow and mature, to become a better person.
When Tai and MetalGreymon were forced back to Earth after the battle against Etemon was over, the group slowly broke apart without his leadership. Only Matt and TK were left with their Digimon. Matt set out across a lake, promising TK he would be back in a few hours. However, weeks later, he had not returned. This was because Matt came across Joe and Gomamon, who were washing dishes in Digitamamon's Diner to pay for their bills. Matt agreed to help out so they leave early, but an evil Digimon called DemiDevimon target them to make things difficult, causing accidents to make it look like Joe is doing it. The truth was soon revealed and Matt's crest glowed after seeing Joe saving TK from Vegiemon. Garurumon Digivolved to WereGarurumon and sent Digitamamon flying!
They all returned to the Real World to look for the Eighth Child, while dealing with a powerful enemy called Myotismon. The 8th Child was in fact, Tai's little sister - Kari. Thanks to the sacrifice of Wizardmon, Kari had her Digimon, Gatomon, became Angewomon to slain Myotismon. However, he returned as VenomMyotismon... giving the Digidestined's first taste of what Mega-levels are like. Matt and Tai, in accordance with an ancient prophecy unearthed by Gennai, allowed themselves to be struck by arrows of Hope and Light from Angemon and Angewomon. This allowed Agumon and Gabumon to Warp-Digivolve into their Mega stages of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, who destroyed VenomMyotismon. With his destruction, a rift to the DigiWorld opened again, and the kids realised they had to go back. Sombre, Matt said his goodbyes to his parents, thinking their caring attitude meant nothing.
After the kids defeated MetalSeadramon, the first of the Dark Masters - four evil Mega level Digimon who had conquered the DigiWorld - Matt's remorse bubbled to the surface, and he took it out on Tai. Screaming at him, he claimed he wanted to do nothing but fight, and didn't care about the feelings of anyone else.
Later, TK was captured by Puppetmon and Matt went into a panic, losing the power of Friendship temporaly when he ignored his friend's suffering as they confronted Kiwimon, one of Puppetmon's minions... "First we find T.K., then we fight YOUR war!" was his words when Tai said they should defeat Kiwimon first and lost the power of Friendship. However, TK was able to escape Puppetmon on his own, thus giving Matt a hard blow of reality.
He thought that his purpose had been to look after T.K. - the way he saw it, he had no other use. But now that T.K. was able to take care of himself... what use was he? Matt skulked off into the forest, wanting to be alone with his thoughts. He explained to Gabumon that, despite his wishes, he felt he had not grown as a person in any way. Gabumon tried to convince him otherwise, but then, Cherrymon, another of Puppetmon's minions, appeared, and used his powers to convince Matt that it was Tai's fault he was unable to grow. Gabumon decided to convince Matt that friendship DID matter - by standing by him, no matter what.
Gabumon's loyality gave Matt the power to get the Crest of Friendship to glow once more and Gabumon to Warp Digivolve to MetalGarurumon. Then, he fought against WarGreymon while Tai and Matt had a fist fight. Matt didn't want to be a DigiDestined; he could not see what use he was to the team, and wanted to know who had picked them for the task. The fight was interrupted by a mysterious entity from the DigiWorld's past, which possessed Kari's body, and showed the kids the true story behind their selection as the DigiDestined. Matt realised he had been wrong - but he still needed to 'find himself.' He and Gabumon left the team... only to return for a moment to kill Puppetmon and left again. (Giving Puppetmon a harsh truth about what friendship is really about)
Matt soon told Gabumon his fears and misery, and how much he was jealous of Tai. Gabumon helped him out and they soon decided to be friends for life. They soon met up with Joe and TK and had to save Sora from her own fears. They joined Tai and the others in the final battle against Piedmon, the leader of the Dark Masters. Matt and Tai reconciled their differences, and admitted that their friendship was one of the most important things to them. They went on to defeat their final enemy before returning home to become honoary members of DATS.
After teaming up with DATS, the Digidestined helped them with their problems with Merukimon, Kurata, Belphemon, the Royal Knights and King Drasil. Then, the Diaboromon came along to menace the Internet. Matt and TK were visiting their grandmother in the country. The elderly woman wasn't quite all there, and Tai couldn't quite manage to convey the fact that he needed to speak to them over the phone. When Diaboromon was at his Ultimate form - Infermon... TK and Matt finally got connected with them and started to thrash Infermon with WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon. The battle took for a turn for the worse as Infermon became Diaboromon and made many copies of himself that overcame the two Megas. However, a miracle happened and WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon became Omnimon... thus Diaboromon fell...
Some time later, Matt and the other Digidestined came back into the Digital World and released the power of their Crests to protect the Digital World from evil. The cost was heavy as Gabumon lost the power to Digivolve as WereGarurumon and MetalGarurumon. Then, Matt moved beyond his simple harmonica, and began to play bass guitar. He and some of his friends formed a band, which they called “The Teenage Wolves,” who soon became popular in Odaiba.
Matt is also trying out the Digimon Online with a new character so he could relax in peace...
And then... tragedy in the Digital World arrives...
