??? (Alaska): We're off to see the Wizard

Into a small house in the great state of Alaska appeared a small group of our heroes.

Andorra, Brett, Brick, Thad, Abraham, and Lt. Col. McCall all showed up from a digi-port that came from the one computer in the room.


"Where exactly are we?"


"That's classified right now. You'll be informed later when it's pertinent."

The voice came from a woman waiting in a chair for the group.

He looked around. "Hm? Who said that?" He looked toward the chair.

"That would be me."


"Major Kusak, good to see I didn't arrive to an empty room."

The woman stood and saluted McCall.

"Colonel. Good to see you again."

"Are we ready?"


"Everything's prepared, sir. We'll take them there once Captain Endymion arrives."


"I'll arrange my own transport back."
He nodded and saluted to the group. "This is Major Maria Kusak, she's your CO now. God bless and good luck."
And then...he left through the front door.


"So...you're the one that's training us?"


"Yes, that's me. I'm here to inform you about our digital world, too, before you enter. First, close that portal."

Brett did so.

"What's going-"

The Major got up, walked over, and unplugged the computer completely.

"If everyone would please hand me their phones. We'll replace them later."


"Replace them?! I just got this!"


"I'm sorry, but you can't be connected to any external network in any way when we go to the base."

"I don't have one, so I'm good." He shrugged, and blinked. 'Endymion...why does that name sound familiar?'

He nodded his head. "It's good to meet you, ma'am."

"Yeah, here's hoping things go well! Also, if Kaz is talking to himsel..."

"You don't need to tell everyone about my problem, Bit!" He barked.

Maria stopped Brett before he handed the phone over.


"Don't worry. You want to call your family, we'll handle it," she said softly, "We've all got families to worry about."


"...Thanks."


She took the phone and stripped it of the battery.
"Alright, all of you, may I have your names, please."


"Brick, ma'am!"


"Thaddeus Xavier Wyatt V. Everyone calls me Thad."


"Brett Barrett."


"I'm Andorra, his girlfriend."


"Abraham Wessex, ma'am!"

"I'm Lex. Her brother."

"Bitmon, but everyone calls me Bit. Nice to meet you!"

"Kaz Fuudo."

"So then, this is what the Colonel managed to get," she chuckled, "Well, as he said. My name is Major Maria Kusak. Just call me 'Major' or 'Ma'am'. I'm not Ms. or Mrs. Kusak, and I'm not Maria."
She looked at the three digimon. "Interesting. Dracomon, Bearmon...and Bitmon? Haven't seen you in our world. Your kind common in yours?"
She motioned for them to take seats. They'd have to wait for Captain Endymion.
Brett, Thad, Abraham, Andorra, and Brick all sat down.

"We're a bit uncommon, but you can see us here and there." He said.

He sat back. "Though Bit's one of a kind. He's a chatterbox."

"I am nooot. Don't embarrass me infront of the Major..."

"And you've been doing what exactly...?"

He rose his hands. "Calm down, you two...sorry, they tend to bicker quite a bit." After spending the day with Kaz and Bit, he should know.

The Major merely smiled a bit, but said not much more.

"As long as you two cooperate in combat, the bickering is fine."


"They do alright in combat," he said with a chuckle.


"What's that you've got there, Thad?"

Thad was still carrying all his research and his half-finished weapon.

"Work I did based on the weapons made for Lex and Andorra by their...maker."


"Sore story..." she growled, but she explained it all to Maria, who nodded at the end.


"Good that you two were rescued, then."

"Indeed." He nodded.

The doors opened...

"Sorry I'm late, Major."

@reiner@ In stepped a good looking man, with a bit of a smile.

"Hm? Is this guy...!" He looked surprised.

@reiner@ "Surprise surprise, kiddo."

"....whozat?"

"Good, you're here. This is Captain Endymion; he's the pilot for our installation. I assume you have the C-47 fueled up already?"

Brett blinked.

"Wait, I've been to Lackland AFB, a C-47's a world war II plane!"


"We can't use anything with modernized technology unless we want a chance of being tracked. Believe me, the Captain wishes we had something faster. I can brief you on the way to the installation."
She got up and smirked to the Captain. "You forgot to salute. Going to have to tell General Zobrist about that."


"Wait, Kaz, you know this guy?"


"I thought you lived in Japan? How would you know an obscure military pilot?"

@reiner@ "Heh, sorry..." He saluted. "Slipped my mind."

"It's a long story..."

@reiner@ "Not really. I knew his dad, we sort of went toe to toe in a war game, and we got close from there."

"A war game?"

"Like a video game?"


"Ah. I imagine that joint exercises between the Japanese Self Defense Forces and the US military have been frequent what with China being an eternal thorn in the side of western democracy and North Korea rattling a saber like it always does."


"Basically it's practice to keep soldiers ready to fight. Training. ANd it's done with members of other military forces in order to make sure that they all know how each other operate so allies don't screw up when they've got to work together."


"Oh, that makes a lot of sense."


"At any rate, gather up your things. We can talk while in the air."

Brett and Thad gathered up their bags other things and nodded.


"Cool, I'm going to go on a human plane!"


"I imagine you haven't flown yet?"
Dracomon couldn't actually fly, even though they had wings.


"No, I have, just as a Coredramon!"

Maria chuckled.

"Ah, yes, using digisoul for temporary evolution. Indeed. Alright, then, Captain, you're leading the way."

"I flew myself, it's a lot of fun. I'll take Valhawkmon over Alteimon."

"Really? The big guy's starting to grow on me...no music." He grinned.

"But he's so heavy..."

@reiner@ "Right..." He looked over at the two, then back at Maria. "Roger that. Let's move." He lead off.

As Lex and the two followed along.

Outside an old prop plane was waiting for them.


"Wow, that really is old-school."


"That's the same kind of plane that dropped troops on D-Day for the airborne invasion. Neat."


"Cool."


The Dracomon was too excited to speak. Human tech geek. History and technology in one! Sign him up!

The Major nodded to the Captain and climbed aboard, with the rest following her.
