Ground Zero: Paying Respects

Brett nodded and tried to calm down. Eventually, he came off his adrenaline high and picked up the egg again when his digisoul subsided.


"I'm going to need some baseballs," he chuckled.


Brick blinked. "I'll say!"

[Candescence]

"Holy crap, mate..." Keith blinked, as they continued to walk.


"So... I guess we're gonna go back on patrol once we're done delivering this egg?"


"Perhaps... Hmm... No, that won't do, that Digivice that Brett has would be wasted on being used in the real world..." Nanami said. "I think... Perhaps... You and your friends could go to the Digital World, and help destroy the source of this trouble - the dark towers."


"And if there's a Digi-Egg out there for Brett and Brick..." Keith mused... "Huh... That might not actually be a bad idea. Davis, Yolei and Cody can't do it on their own..."


"And you might be able to look for the other parts of the GeoGrey Sword," Nanami noted. "It's power might be capable of helping you combat the dark towers, though I am not certain."

"The hell's a digi egg?" he asked, lifting the one he was carrying. "I need another one of these?"


"I say we stop at a store first! I'm huuuuuungry!" he said, "And Brett needs baseballs!"

[Candescence]

"A different kind of Digi-Egg from the one you're carrying," Keith said. "They look different, too, they have a crest on them. They allow 'Armor Evolution', a special type of evolution that is slightly stronger than the regular Champion level, and bypasses the evolution block that those 'dark towers' impose."


"More or less," Nanami said. "I don't doubt that Brett got his Digivice for a reason. His type is the only one right now that can allow us to go into the Digital World, and use these 'Armor Digi-Eggs'."

"Dark Towers? Champion level?"

It was obvious that he didn't know much. That initial meeting really hadn't helped all that much, he was so dazed, confused, and half-asleep from the nap he had no idea what was going on.

[Candescence]

"This is gonna take a while, won't it."


"Yep..."

They explained the basics of Digimon evolution, and what they had seen that day while in the Digital World, including about the Dark Towers and the three Digi-Eggs that had allowed Davis, Yolei and Cody to evolve their partners...

"Oh, shit. I should've brought a notebook," he moaned, "This is a mess..."


"Let's just hope that we can help, then," he said.

[Candescence]

"You're one of the few Digidestined who can," Keith said. "The dark towers are blocking travel to the Digital World, but that Digivice can get around that somehow. Either way, what Nanami said is right - we can't just have you fighting random Digimon in New York. We have to take out the source."


"The towers control Digimon in the area..." Vix gulped. "And those Digimon will try to protect the towers... Armor Evolution will be essential."


"I will talk to Professor Daimon about changing your current task," Nanami noted. "The more DATS operatives capable of destroying the dark towers, the better."

"Well, I suppose I've got to do as ordered, what with being an official DATS employee and all."


"Well, this is what you were supposed to do, Brett. Whole party of the 'destined' thing."


"Don't remind me."

[Candescence]

He chuckled, "I don't believe in having a pre-determined fate. My own destiny is mine to carve out as I see fit."


"Prophecies have come true before," Nanami pointed out. "Two in quick succession occurred during the Myotismon disaster five years ago..."


"Do I look like I care?"


"Fate is a real thing," Vix said. "There is a legend that there are three Digimon out there who govern fate itself... Weave its threads..."


"Like the Fates of Greek Mythology, or the Norns-"


He then remembered the chains... Wait... That can't be right... Were those...? Heh... I wouldn't know, but if they were... "Look, I don't care about old legends or these 'Fates'. I'll break the laws of damn physics if I need to get something done."

"Pretty sure I already did on a lark," said Brett dubiously, referring to the can, "And I'm not one for predestined shit either. What do I look like, a Calvinist?"


"Calvinist?"


"Don't worry about it."

[Candescence]

He chuckled, "Amen to that."


"I guess there's no convincing either of you..." Vix chuckled.


"But, in any case... What do you think those chains were, back there? They were wrapping almost everything up before I broke them..."


"You saw more chains...? Interesting... I only saw the ones that bound the handle..."


"Same here..." Vix blinked.

"So you ARE delusional," said Brett with a chuckle.


"I didn't see them..."

[Candescence]

"Well, whatever it was, I bloody well broke it, and we know what happened due to that," Keith said. "I saw places... Events, taking place far away... They were blurry, and difficult to describe, but... One sticks out the most. A human figure... He or she was dying... In front of some bizzare amalgamation of several Digimon."


So perhaps we all saw visions... But of what...? "Interesting... I will have to add that to my report..."


"The chains were there, no doubt about that," Vix said. "And Keith broke them somehow."

"This stuff is getting really strange really fast," he moaned.


"Can we please get something to eat? I'm so huuuuuungry!" said Brick, attention span already on his stomach again.
